Why won't my stereo's CD player work?

I own an Emerson 6CD changer, model MS9600. For one, the clock doesn't keep the right time, and secondly, the CD player function will not open/work. When you press the CD on, all you hear is the trays inside spinning, but the door will not open. Can anyone help with my dilemma?
