Checking differential fluid on a '97 Ram.?

I have a 1997 Dodge Ram with a 5.9L V8(360). It is 2WD and it has 95,000 miles on it. I was wondering how to check the rear differential fluid. There is normally a hole in which you stick your finger in after removing the cover and their should be fluid right bellow that hole. I cannot find any covers/holes to check it on my Ram. Any help would be appreciated.
